You carry a tile. A brick's underscore is the slot it drops into. Bump a brick that makes a word and you place the tile, then peel a new one.
green — you placed the tile amber — a word you passed, no penalty red — you bumped a non-word
Passing a word is free — you may be eyeing a better spot. But carry a tile past 12 bricks without placing it and it is dumped: you lose no points, you lose the tile. Only the clock charges you.
